TOGETHER AT BROOKLYN SCHOOL- OUR PLACEBrooklyn School is a rural, family oriented, full primary school of five classes
(Year 0 - Year 8). OUR Koru Logo is significant to us in a number of ways, representing the physical, academic, social, emotional and spiritual growth (Hauora) of our students as their respective learning journeys develop whilst at Brooklyn School. The growth of the Koru represents older students at the top helping and protecting younger students as they learn and grow into Global thinkers throughout the various stages of their development. We are TOGETHER AT BROOKLYN and WE celebrate the unique gifts and talents of every child. The school is located 7km west of Motueka at the foot of the Brooklyn Valley serving children from families involved in local horticulture and agriculture and also from Motueka township. Access is provided via 2 school buses which are owned and operrated by the school. One serves the Ministry of Education run which includes Westbank Road and Brooklyn Valley, whilst the other serves Riwaka and Motueka township. A strong school ethic is prevalent and can be encapsulated in the statement "TOGETHER AT BROOKLYN." This is further defined as these following 3 charateristics of a 'Brooklyn Learner - 'Sharing, Curious & Active'. Pupils receive a high quality education covering all aspects of the New Zealand curriculum. Achievement in Reading and Mathematics is, overall, above national norms. A unique feature of the school is the integrated teaching approach that has been developed, which sees children having input into school organisation, teaching and learning and participation in community events. Outdoor education is a feature and includes annual camps and community sports. As well, we participate in school-wide cooperative activities e.g. maths, art, peer reading, sports, drama and produce annual concerts with community involvement. We are committed to providing our students with up to date E-Learning opportunities and have been developing our IT resources in order to support this aim. These resources range from i-pads to laptop computers and much, much more. Our focus is to prepare our learners for 'their' futures. Visiting artists perform regularly at the school so that the children's interest in the arts is stimulated. The school also has a regular cycle of whole school musical productions and Rich Learning opportunities which are fully integrated into all curriculum areas at all levels. The school prides itself in providing a well rounded education. The community is very supportive of the school and well represented by a committed Board of Trustees. Come and join OUR team!
